Beechwood Sacred Heart Invitation

Kin Ryu's Judoka.

16 juniors from the club competed at the Beechwood Sacred Heart Invitation held in Tunbridge Wells, Kent.

This was to be a tough event even for some of the clubs more seasoned players and although they were nervous they were determined to do their best.

The first to fight were the players in the 5 – 6 year old age group.

The club had five players in this section, Cali Sharman, Amelia Sharman, Suzanna Neave, Lia Thompson and Adam Funnell.

All fought well and were rewarded with bronze medals for Lia and Cali, Silver for Adam and Suzanna and the first gold of the day for Amelia.

Suzanna was then awarded the spirit of judo award for her group for her outstanding determination.

Following these were the players in the 7 – 8 year old group.

The club was represented by Jack Thompson, Lauren Graves, Corlia Robertson and Matthew Graves, Harrison Lynn.

All fought hard and had some tough fights but returned with bronze for Harrison, Jack and Corlia, Silver for Matthew and gold for Lauren who threw all of her opponents within 20 seconds!

The final group was the 9,10,11 and 12 year olds and in this group the club was represented by Andrew Robertson, Joseph O’Doherty, Scott Woods, James Rivers, Ryan Robb, Jane Neave.

This group faced some tough opposition and in some cases found themselves against opponents that were far more experienced than themselves, but all showed great skill and determination and thoroughly earned their medals.

In this group bronze went to Ryan, silver to Andrew and James and gold to Joseph, Scott and Jane.

The Spirit of Judo award was won by Ryan who was fighting at his first event after only 10 weeks of Judo.

Lisa, Martin, Peter, David, Zoe and Shani were also in attendance as coaches, referees and assistant coaches.
