On Saturday Kin Ryu Judo Club fighters Mark Graves and Mark Green competed at the Kyu Grade Cup, held at the specialist judo centre in High Wycombe.

This event is open to all senior fighters (over 16) who do not hold a black belt.

First to fight was Mark Graves in the green belt and under section.

This was his first competition after taking up the sport only 9 months ago and he fought well and pushed his opponents hard.

He did not medal this time but gained some valuable experience.

Following him was Mark Green, who has returned to judo after a long break from the sport.

Mark was fighting in the blue and brown belt section and was determined to return to competitive judo at the top.

Mark quickly showed his skill by beating his first 2 opponents in quick succession with superbly executed throws.

In his semi-final Mark was pushed hard by his opponent, but this did not deter him and after his opponent committed a major foul he was disqualified handing Mark his place in the final.

In the Final Mark finished in style once again throwing his opponent for the full 10 points and taking a well deserved gold, impressive for his first event in 5 years!

Well done to all!
