Last weekend saw a flurry of medals for Kin Ryu Judo Club as some of the clubs youngest members took to the mat at the Holmwood House invitation held in Tunbridge Wells, Kent.
This was to be a tough event even for some of the clubs more seasoned players and although they were nervous they were determined to do their best.
In the youngest group Kin Ryu was represented by Fraser Lynn, Sam Miller and Katherine Burke who are all aged 5-6.
All fought well and showed some great skill especially for their age and experience and resulted in Katherine taking a bronze medal, Fraser a silver and the first gold of the day to Sam.
Katherine was then awarded the Spirit of judo award for her group for her determination as she was the smallest and youngest in her group but held her own exceptionally well! Following these were the players in the 7 – 8 year old group.
The club was represented by Adam Funnell, Connor Herbert, Daniel Stannard, Harrison Lynn, William Burke, and Zack Wake.
Once again Kin Ryu players found they had some tough fights but showed that their hard work in training was paying off with a bronze medal for Daniel at his first event, after taking all his fights to full time and losing on a referee’s decision.
Silver for Harrison, William and Connor and gold for Zack and Adam who won their fights with some outstanding throws! Spirit of Judo award was also won by Zack who beat opponents several belts higher in grade and older than himself to win his gold.
In the 9 and overs Kin Ryu had just 3 fighters representing the club, Sean Cumper, Scott Woods and Andrew Woods.
Determined to keep up the success of the day, all the boys fought hard and despite some tough fights, Andrew came away with a bronze medal, Scott with silver after narrowly losing the gold and Sean finished off the day with the final gold.
Andrew also won the spirit of judo award for his group.
Well done to all!!
